Gay Ole Paris

My friend Martin just sent me the link to this site here in Paris. The blog is called "My Little Paris" and they recently wrote about a creperie in the 3e arrondisement in Le Marais, which house the traditionally Jewish and gay neighborhoods. The menu looks incredible, with a sweet one containing a pear and chantilly (French whipped cream that is amazing!) concoction. The site wouldn't let me link it to this blog, but thumbnail links can be found on my facebook page and twitter. Bisous!

Juuuuuuuuuuuuulia

Oh Julia, I think John Lennon was really singing about you when he wrote that song. Why are you so amazing? And why can't I have a piece of this amazing gateau made of crepes?

Here griddle griddle...

I think I may have located a few griddles, and much to the help of "family" on the West Coast, it may be easier to get it here than planned. I am really really grateful to all those who have offered their help, including a Des Moines art professor who may have a student interested in doing some pro-bono design work for the cart. Now, if only all things were this easy...

Maybe I should see what other advertisements for needs of mine I can put on this blog? New haircut, job in Chicago, affordable and fabulous apartment on Michigan Ave in September. Anyone? Anyone? Ok, I'm just getting greedy. But seriously, the Northwestern graduate degree comes a pretty cost, and I could really use that job...I don't think crepes are gonna "cut it" when it comes to the NU bill.

I haven't made crepes in almost a week! Perhaps I will tonight.

In search!!

Currently looking for a used or inexpensive crepe griddle!! This is harder than I imagined--I located one in LA, but um, I don't live in LA, nor do I want to, nor do I live anywhere close to LA, nor do I have a desire to go to LA, nor a desire to pay for shipping from LA. HELP!!! Hey, let's not get too down on ourselves--Long live the Midwest! And our colonial French history!

Design Time

I am in desperate need of a logo. A logo. Logo logo logo. I wish I had invited the swoosh: "Crepes: Just Do It." Pretty effective, non? I am currently contacting universities to propose the idea of some pro-bono work. Any suggestions (ok, just some straight-up logo submissions) would be greatly appreciated.

Talladega Nights: "I love really thin pancakes"

For some reason this video was lost on the previous post with the same title. Great vid!

Flip crepes at the French Markets of Chicago

This is what I aim for! I like wrapping the crepes in foil--it is both good for keeping a warm crepe, and also to minimize spilling. Genius!

"I love really thin pancakes"

Not that this caused any heartbreak or ache, but I apologize for the long absence in posts. Yesterday, we received confirmation of booth space for our Le Creperie at the Downtown Des Moines Farmer's Market. It is a wonderfully exciting opportunity, both financially and gastronomically. I think this venture will test both my mental organizational capabilities as well as my love of food, crepes, and my father :)

This is going to be a long process, filled with many bouts of adrenaline shots and hairloss. But I think it will be nothing short of awesome. It will give me both experience in the kitchen and at the register, two skills that are definitely required to continue this successful little life of mine that I have begun.

First item of business: Buy a crepe gridle. Prefered brand: Krampouz
Second item of business: Convince Mark to buy a beret.

Any thoughts, suggestions, and encouragement are greatly appreciated...I have already, in the past twelve hours, received massive amounts of digi-support (via emails, online forums, and facebook).

I LOVE THIN PANCAKES!

Electric Avenue - Eddy Grant (HQ Audio)

The song after the Street!

Electric Avenue

HA! It's a real place! Those Brits are so clever, writing about real places...

Electric Avenue is right next to the Brixton Tube station, which was the stop I took to get to my hostel. Interesting neighborhood, but still so Londonish...what is the adjective for "something that is London" (such as "Parisien")??

And the vintage shopping! Nothing like it exists in Paris!

And would you be shocked to hear that Big Ben isn't even that big? Here are pics from Buckingham Palace...a bit of a let down as the guards weren't wearing red and I couldn't even get in their face like they do in the movies. Oh well--it was sunny and still a (fun)interesting time.

Garments

Not only is the food good, but the shopping is unlike anything in Paris. Bright colors, soft silhouettes, funky details, and reasonable prices. Two of my favorite stores were JOY and Oliver Bosan. Honestly, I didn't have the courage to spend much time in TopShop (too overwhelming!) and although I would have liked to run through Primark (supposedly a Forever 21-esque store), I never came across one.

Mmmmmmmm Meat Pies....

Whoever decided that British (London-specific) has crap-cuisine was seriously disturbed. I have never eaten so well on a trip--such a variety for quick eats: rustic wood-fired pizza, the CURRY!, dressed up fish-and-chips, stilton and beef pies, the most amazing ginger beer from Jamaica, cadbury eggs!, mars bars, the list goes on and on...

London Graffiti, wall art, Camden Town, Banksy

A real live Banksy. He is a London-based street artist who graffitis all over the world. Most of his work doesn't last more than a couple of days (police cover it, etc), but here, a vendor of a Banksy store and a Banksy purveyor, directed us to this site--a real live Banksy under a bridge on the canal that runs through Camden. So cool!

The Real McCoy

Mark gets here in 11 days and frankly, I couldn't wait that long for him to bring me American goodies. Earlier in the day yesterday, my co-intern/worker/fellow brunette and I got to talking about Peanut Butter, and I told her about the wonder that is the Peanut Butter M&M. I first thought Mark could bring her some, but I, as mentioned, couldn't wait. So I made my way to The Real McCoy, an American-stocked novelty store and cafe in the 7e arrondisement very close to the Eiffel Tower, complete with Betty Crocker, Jiffy, and barbeque sauce. I also bought Ranch dressing for next week's KFC office party. Oh ya, that's right, KFC. Kitchen Fre(nch)sh Chicken. I've never been more excited to eat carrot fingers with a side of hormone-drunk poultry. Mmmm...
